Inserting MDID2 or personal images into the ARTstor Offline Viewer

Creating your presentation

  • Assemble your MDID images in a slideshow and package it to your desktop. Assemble your ARTstor images, make an ARTstor show and package it.
  • Open OIV and “import” (download) your ARTstor image group from the ARTstor server. Add your MDID images by simply dragging and dropping them into the OIV thumbnail view. You can also add web or personal images in this same manner.
  • Save your new ARTstor/ MDID2 combo as a .prs file (File>Save As...). It can be saved wherever you please. It's just like saving a Word document or a PowerPoint, the entire presentation group is stored in that one .prs file. The resulting .prs file will be quite large. Copy this .prs file to a CD or a USB key; it will not fit on a floppy. If using your own laptop, copy file to desktop for your presentation.

Transporting your presentation

  • Make sure you have the latest version of OIV on the classroom computer and/or the laptop you will use for your presentation. As of 5/15/05 it is version 1.2.1. If you go to a conference and use an onsite computer or another presenter’s, take OIV on your USB key drive and download it.
  • Open OIV. You cannot just double-click an OIV file to open it in OIV. You have to open OIV first. Then drag your .prs file from your desktop onto OIV or select File>Open from the menu and find your .prs file.

Student study usage

  • In order for your students to be able to use the .prs file for studying, it needs to be posted on Blackboard or a class website, maybe in a dropbox or some feature which allows you to post files for students. It is not necessary to create a new webpage or a new set of images. Students have to download the ARTstor OIV to open the file, so you would need to make sure they understand that requirement.

Inserting ARTstor or other images into the MDID2 ImageViewer2

Creating your presentation

  • Find the image(s) you need in ARTstor. Double click on the image and open it in a window. Click on the “download” icon (the little floppy disk) and accept the “Terms and Conditions of Use.” Save the image(s) to your desktop. Save any web images that you want in your slideshow to the desktop.
  • Load the ARTstor images and/or web images into your “My Images” portion of MDID. You will need to copy the cataloging data from ARTstor into the MDID cataloging fields provided in “My Images.” The ARTstor images will small in size, 400 pixels on the long side. Create a slideshow using a combination of MDID images, ARTstor and web images and save in MDID.
  • This slideshow can now be shown in any technology classroom with ImageViewer2 and students can study online in MDID.

Transporting your presentation

  • Go to “My Slideshows” and click on “Properties.” Package your slideshow either for Windows or Mac OS X. Unzip the file and save onto any portable storage medium, i.e. CD or USB key drive. You can then load the slideshow onto your laptop or use an onsite computer or another presenter’s at a conference.

Student study usage

  • Students can study your MDID2/ARTstor combo online in the MDID2 student viewer.
